A Course in Miracles-Ireland
A Course In Miracles is not a religion. A Course in Miracles is a non-dualistic spirituality. There is no other spirituality that combines a nondualistic metaphysics with the very sophisticated psychology one finds in this “Course”.
Anyone at all can benefit from A Course in Miracles. One does not have to be an intellectual to learn from it and use it as a spiritual path. NonethelessA Course in Miracles is written on a high intellectual level with sophisticated metaphysical, theological, and psychological concepts integrated into the teaching throughout the three books.
If a person comes away from the Course being more kind, more loving, and reassured of God’s Love, and less angry, depressed, and fearful, then its purpose has been fulfilled. This Course has explicitly stated that its goal for you is happiness and peace.
A Course In Miracles is a self-study curriculum which aims to assist all of its students in achieving spiritual transformation, expanding into higher levels of consciousness, providing guidance, assistance, and empowerment to create a journey of ease, peace and joy.
A Course In Miracles uses the word “ miracle” simply to mean a correction, the undoing of false perception. It has nothing to do with anything external, such as walking on water, it never has anything to do with the external (form), but always with content, which is internal or the mind.
We do not change another person, we change how we look at this person. It is a change in mind with a shift in perception. That is what a miracle is, and that is the goal of this “Course”.
A Course in Miracles teaches that there are only two basic contents in the world: God or the ego; love or fear; spirit or the body. The whole “Course” is a training program, It is a mind-training course, a way of training us to think absolutely differently from everything else. This is a very radical thought system.
Every single negative experience we have, whether it is ingratitude, anger, guilt, fear, shame, anxiety, etc. all stem, without exception, from the thought system of the ego. A Course in Miracles is the transformation of the ego self, and the attainment of your true identity, which is eternal, immortal, pure, innocent, forever loving and forever loved.
Understanding the ego in the Course is directly based on the teachings of Freud. There would not have been A Course in Miracles only for these teachings. Freud very systematically and logically described exactly how the ego functions.
Freud uses the word ego in a different way to that of the Course, for Freud the ego is only one part of the psyche, which consists of the id ( the unconscious) the super ego ( the conscious) and the ego, which is the part of the mind that integrates all this. The way the Course uses the word “ego” would be roughly equivalent to the total Freudian psyche. You have to make that transition to work with the Course.
The Course teaches us that the most natural thing in this world is to be at peace and one with God, because that peace comes from within us. The more that we love, heal, and forgive, the more loved, healed, and forgiven we become.
To love for the sake of being loved is human, to love for the sake of loving is Divine. We are Spiritual Beings having a human experience, not human beings having a Spiritual experience. Albert Einstein once wrote “There are only two ways to live your life, One is as though nothing is a Miracle, The other is as everything is a miracle”.
A miracle is an inner shift. One of the most beautiful lines in the Course defines a miracle in this way; “The holiest of all the spots on earth is where an ancient hatred has become a present love”. That is a miracle.
When you suddenly shift from a perception of hatred for someone to where you now look with love on that very person. That is the miracle. That is why this book is called A Course in Miracles, it show us exactly just how to do this. It is showing us how we can change our minds. We do not attempt to change the world, we change our minds.
A Course in Miracles and the Bible reflect entirely different and mutually exclusive theologies that can never be integrated into one coherent spirituality. It teaches absolutely the opposite of everything the world believes, and it teaches the opposite of what many religious or spiritual systems believe, too.
This crucial difference can be summarized in the statement that for Christians the Bible is the Word of God, while from the perspective of A Course in Miracles, the Bible would be seen as just one among many religious documents that reflect the consciousness of the time and culture in which they were written.
For approximately 2,000 years, the Bible has had an incredible hold on Western civilization, and has clearly dominated all other forms of religious thought. Moreover, it has exerted the most powerful influence over the course of Western political, economic, social, moral, and artistic history.
Thus, from the perspective of A Course in Miracles, the God of the Bible, Creator of the world and author of the atonement plan of suffering, sacrifice, and death, is an ego God. He is one who clearly represents the thought system of the ego’s specialness that the “Course” sets forth.
Therefore, we can conclude that there is no way one can reconcile the God or theology of the Bible with the theology found in A Course in Miracles.
This world we seem to live in is based on fear, greed, wealth, scarcity, control and force. The “Course” is founded upon forgiveness, love, peace , and abundance. It is time to remember who we really are, the creators we are meant to be, and the Divinity which we all are.
“This course does not aim at teaching the meaning of love, for that is beyond what can be taught. It does aim, however, at removing the blocks to the awareness of love’s presence, which is your natural inheritance”.
“It is not necessary to seek for what is true, but it is necessary to seek for what is false. “Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all of the barriers within yourself that you have built against it”.
Those barriers after a while no longer are barriers—they become who we are. We have become those defenses.
